Semantic knowledge construction from annotated image collections
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper presents new methods for extracting semantic knowledge from collections of annotated images. The proposed methods include novel automatic techniques for extracting semantic concepts by disambiguating the senses of words in the annotations using the lexical database WordNet, and both the images and their annotations, and for discovering semantic relations among the detected concepts based on WordNet. Another contribution of this paper is the evaluation of several techniques for visual feature descriptor extraction and data clustering in the extraction of semantic concepts. Experiments show the potential of integrating the analysis of both images and annotations for improving the performance of the word-sense disambiguation process. In particular, the accuracy improves 415% with respect to the baselines systems for nature images.

A Generic Architecture for the Conversion of Document Collections into Semantically Annotated Digital Archives
Mass digitization of document collections with further processing and semantic annotation is an increasing activity among libraries and archives at large for preservation, browsing and navigation, and search purposes. In this paper we propose a software architecture for the process of converting high volumes of document collections to semantically annotated digital libraries. The proposed archi...
متن کاملSearching with Semantics: An Interactive Visualization Technique for Exploring an Annotated Image Collection
Effective opportunistic search in visual interfaces for large information collections, such as documents, web pages, and annotated images, often requires domain knowledge that the information seeker does not have. Relevant semantic information, such as metadata and especially ontologies, are valuable resources for helping the user learn this domain knowledge. In this paper we describe an intera...
متن کاملSemantic Knowledge Base Construction from Domain-Specified Metadata
Existing semantic knowledge bases such as WordNet and Yago contain the information of relations between entities. Although they are not domain-specific, they contain limited information and have limitations on the usage scopes and domains. For example, they do not hold the information about the domain-specific commonsense relations between concepts like “horse” and “farm” or “ocean” and “atmosp...
متن کاملPerceptual knowledge construction from annotated image collections
This paper presents and evaluates new methods for extracting perceptual knowledge from collections of annotated images. The proposed methods include automatic techniques for constructing perceptual concepts by clustering the images based on visual and text feature descriptors, and for discovering perceptual relationships among the concepts based on descriptor similarity and statistics between t...
متن کاملComparative Study on Automatic Image Annotation
With the detonative development of internet technologies in the web huge amount of images are available on the web. Large amount of research has been carried out on image retrieval since last few years. There is need for efficient and viable procedure to find visual information on demand. Recent research shows that there is semantic gap between low level features of image and semantic concepts ...
